Kate has two new recordings.
Kate Dillingham, cello
Blair McMillen, piano
Music of French masters Claude Debussy,
Arthur Honegger and Gabriel Fauré.
This recording includes the masterful Sonate by Debussy with its wide range
of color and expressivity as well as numerous transcriptions of known and not
so known of Debussy's miniatures. Also featured are two works of Arthur Honegger,
Swiss-born composer whose main influences were Debussy and Wagner. The sonata's
first movement is dark and brooding followed by a beautiful slow movement, full
of rich sonorities and interesting harmonies; the final movement a presto with
driving rhythms in which the two voices engage in a breathless race to the end.
Fauré's Élègie is an homage to a well-loved but now lost
friend and illustrates the beauty and drama of the cello's voice. Après
un rêve tells of the lover's heart after awaking from a dream.
